"Enriching the Lives of Dogs and their Owners!"

Does your dog have bad manners? It’s okay. Lots of dogs have canine behavior problems, but it’s often because they don’t know what is expected of them so they do what comes naturally. In many cases, what comes naturally may be unacceptable to the humans with whom they share their lives. (Think digging up the carpet and rummaging through garbage cans!) Of course you still love your dog, even with his shortcomings, but imagine what life would be like if he was always on his “Best Behavior”! With private training, I can help you target and resolve your dog’s specific problem behaviors which will make for a much more peaceful home and a much deeper relationship with your dog. Once we take care of the behavior problems then we can move on to basic house manners, play and other enrichment activities! I will teach you and your family how to work with your dog in the most practical training environment: your home! My goal is to help you uncover the dog you want by practicing the rules necessary to make your house a home fit to share with a dog. I will help you define what behaviors you seek and develop a customized training plan to meet your goals.
Teaching your dog to respond to your request is very rewarding for both you and your dog. Your dog feels most confident when he knows exactly what is expected of him. If you think about it, how can you expect your dog to be calm and sit still when visitors come to your front door? Your dog wants to greet them in his own special canine way, which is to say, a lot of excitement, including jumping up and barking. This may cause some owners to yell at the dog, which does nothing to help the dog or solve the problem. Once we train and practice a calm greeting in your home, your dog will know what is expected of him as long as you, the dog’s owner, continue to reward him for appropriate behavior as well!
I will develop training routines for you and your dog based on your daily rituals with your dog. Training for everyday life keeps your dog sharp and eager to please. These routines could be as simple as “Sitting for Supper” or as significant as refraining from jumping out an open car door or running out the front door. Some skills can be life saving for your dog in certain circumstances. Some skills are simply convenient, and others are just plain fun! Any way you look at it, your dog will be stimulated by the learning and you will be proud to show him off! This is real-life training which can and should carry on throughout the life of your dog.
Activity or play is an important part of a dog’s life. I will teach you tricks and games as you desire so that you will have many different ways to interact with your dog and get in some extra physical and mental activity. I will introduce you to safe toys and show you how to play safely and with appropriate rules. Play will enhance the bond between you and your dog and may even allow him to be true to his own breed instincts. These tricks and games can also be reinforced by practicing them in everyday life and will promise to be rewarding for your dog and fun for you!
